VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
[Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. voiceover]
If you want to be recognized, wonderful. If you want to be great, wonderful!
But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
That’s the new definition of greatness.

This morning, the thing I like about it, is that by giving it the definition of greatness
It means that everyone can be great, because everybody can serve.

You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.
You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve.
You don’t have to know about Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to serve.
You don’t have to know the Second Theory of Thermodynamics in Physics to serve!

You only need a heart
full of grace.

(A) soul
generated by love.

In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Black History Month, 6th grade students in Newark, New Jersey echo words from MLK’s “Drum Major Instinct” speech, inspired by his timeless reflection on “true” greatness.

This is Dr. Martin Luther King’s Jr.’s Call to Greatness, and there is no better way to kickoff our Jersey Greats series.
