Artist at Work x 4CPA | Gabe Ribeiro
Newark is for Artists
Newark is for Artists is a typographic print mural by Gabe Ribeiro, now located in the heart of the Four Corners Public Arts murals and installations on Treat Place. The message is forthright and profound, staking a claim that artists must be central to the identity and development of (a city like) Newark.
Newark is for Artists featured in Phase I of the Four Corners Public Arts (4CPA) project.

TRANSCRIPT
GABE: The title of my mural is Newark is for Artists, a gentle reminder of what this entire project is about. And it was just a bonding for the arts community. Newark is like a feast of art and culture. If I were to tell somebody who was from Newark, that I was from Newark, it was like an instant bond. Everyone understands each other.
A lot of people have, I think, a closed-minded perception of Newark, but I want them to know that the city is full of artists and they can join them. All they need to do is step into their power.
About Four Corners Public Arts
Four Corners Public Arts was initiated in 2019 through a public/private partnership convened to support public arts initiatives in Newark’s historic district “Four Corners”. The partnership includes The City of Newark, Invest Newark, Newark Arts, Newark Downtown District, Paramount Assets, and RBH Group. The partnership evolved out of a common interest to give care to under-acknowledged areas of the City through the arts, with the goal of cultivating creative communal space for everyone. At a time when Newark is undergoing a marked transformation, the partnership believes it is imperative to create opportunities that strengthen the local creative community.
