On a beautiful Fall day in New Jersey, four dynamic Newark photographers captured a diverse mix of residents and locals at iconic locations across the city for a historic “back together again” photo shoot. Close to one hundred locals participated in various photography setups, which recognized all of Newark – including men, women, LGBTQ+, young and old of all races and ethnic backgrounds.
The initiative, presented by The City of Newark, NJ, in collaboration with Newark’s Division of Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Office of the Mayor, was a celebration of life, art, friendship and resiliency. The project was inspired by the famous “A Great Day in Harlem” photograph, and also marked the anniversary of a previous “A Great Day in Newark” project.
The commissioned photographers included Manuel Acevedo, Chrystofer Davis, Tamara Fleming and Larry Lyons. The selected locations were Fairmount Heights Switching (Art) Station, Hahne & Co Building, Mulberry Commons, Newark City Hall, and NJPAC.
