An arts mural 100 years in the making
Sponsored, in part, by Newark Downtown District
Eighteen world-class artists transformed this 100-year-old wall by creating the PORTRAITS Mural. And now Newark, New Jersey is home to the longest mural on the East Coast – 1.39 miles to be exact! The PORTRAITS Mural is part of GATEWAYS TO NEWARK, a public art and landscape initiative, which aims to beautify each of the city’s entryways – led by the Newark Downtown District.
PORTRAITS Mural featured the following local and international artists: Adrienne Wheeler, Akintola Hanif, David D. Oquendo, Don Rimx, Decertor, GAIA, GERA, Kevin Darmanie, Khari Johnson-Ricks, Lunar New Year, Manuel Acevedo, Mata Ruda, Nanook, Nina Chanel Abney, Sonni, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Werc and Zéh Palito. The project was curated by Rebecca Pauline Jampol and Lunar New Year.
